My Goal

For my final goal, I want to better understand how I can deal with conflict in the classroom. I want to explore the strategies I can use to resolve conflict in the classroom between students and how I can do this without causing more issues among students. My plan is to begin with researching the history of dealing with conflict in the classroom before moving on to how it is done today. Then, once I have gained an understanding of how conflict resolution works and collected resources on the topic, my goal is to create my own plan for dealing with conflict resolution. I hope that this plan can become a guide for me and my peers when we enter the classroom and need to deal with conflict among students.

How this Goal Connects to the Teacher Competencies

My final goal of understanding how to deal with conflict in the classroom meets competency four: Understanding the Complexity of Teaching and Learning, and competency nine: Demonstrate the Understanding of Disciplinary Concepts. This goal is all about understanding complex situations in the classroom and working through them with constructive conversation. Teaching is a complex field and researching how to deal with conflict in the classroom will allow me to better understand its complexities and how I can learn from them. This research will also allow me to understand the different disciplinary concepts I can utilize in my classroom. These will help me better understand the different ways I can resolve conflict and I can find the method that works best for me and develop my disciplinary method.
