Today for the first half of the class we had presentations so Gracen and I presented our Tech Inquiry Project. I thought our presentation went really well and that what we were sharing is an important topic. A couple of other groups also presented and it was really interesting to see what other people had learned about. I enjoyed Mackenzie and Timm’s presentation as the resources they shared were really valuable as these technologies could benefit many children who are struggling academically. Micalia’s presentation was about using technology in French Immersion which is a vein of schooling I do not know a lot about. She also touched on privacy when using tech in the classroom which is something not a lot of other groups, including myself, covered.
We spent the second half of the class doing a coding lesson with Rich McCue where we spent time working on coding activities designed for students. Rich had a lot of valuable information about the different coding options available for teachers to use which you can view here. I tried out two of the sites he showed us, Scratch and Hour to Code. Both these sites felt like video games and used engaging graphics with fun characters to engage students, however I found more options on Hour to Code. I also found Hour to Code easier to navigate as each step comes with video and written instructions which I personally found important for accessibility.
