For my music project I have decided to start playing acoustic guitar again. I played during high school and took lessons for several years but I stopped playing once I entered university. My goal is to relearn the skills I once had and build of these in order to improve my playing.
Over the last few weeks since we started this assignment I have gotten myself re-acquainted with my guitar. I started by practicing some basic cords such as G, C, Em and Dm, however I have since moved on to playing Little Talks by Monsters and Men. I have really enjoyed playing this song as it is not only beautiful but a nice reintroduction to guitar with its fairly simple strumming pattern. Even with this easier pattern, strumming and singing at the same time is something I struggled with in the past so working on that skill was probably my biggest challenge with this song. Despite these challenges I was able to play Little Talks confidently after some dedicated and consistent practice.
Now that I am able to play Little Talks confidently I have moved on to my next song Gloria by the Lumineers which I was inspired to play by my roommate who loves the song. The strumming pattern for Gloria is more complex than Little Talks with consistent strumming through the versus and chorus. While I am still getting comfortable with this sing I believe I can master the strumming pattern and be able to sing while playing it. I am excited to be playing guitar again and I am interested to see where this project takes me.
